Veganism

Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, sport, entertainment or any other purpose.
The aim of the Abbot’s Mill Project is to encourage people to living more compassionately, peacefully and sustainably and reduce our individual and collective ecological footprint.

We also aim to raise awareness of the fact that everything we do in the world is connected and all our actions have repercussions.

Veganism is not only about diet; it embraces all aspects of life and promotes peace and non-violence towards all living beings.

Furthermore, veganism is an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. The way that we breed animals for food is a threat to the planet. It pollutes our environment while consuming huge amounts of water, grain, petroleum, pesticides and drugs.

As the Vegan Society explains:

“The production of meat and other animal products places a heavy burden on the environment – from crops and water required to feed the animals, to the transport and other processes involved from farm to fork. The vast amount of grain feed required for meat production is a significant contributor to deforestation, habitat loss and species extinction. On the other hand, considerably lower quantities of crops and water are required to sustain a vegan diet, making the switch to veganism one of the easiest, most enjoyable and most effective ways to reduce our impact on the environment.”

The Abbot’s Mill Project will promote and encourage veganism in all areas of life and our small community café will be serving delicious and creative vegan food and drink.
